Budget Entryway Makeover Ideas

Stylish entryway makeover achieved on a small budget

An entryway makeover doesn’t require a large budget — it requires the right priorities. The entrance to your home is one of the highest-impact areas to invest a modest amount of time and money, because the transformation is immediately visible every single day.

These 10 budget-friendly makeover ideas range from free (rearranging what you have) to low-cost (under £50 per item). Together they can completely transform even the most tired, neglected entryway into a space that feels welcoming, stylish, and deliberately designed.

01. Paint the Front Door or Feature Wall

Paint is the single most cost-effective makeover tool available. A fresh coat on the front door in a rich, confident colour — navy, deep green, or warm terracotta — transforms the entrance instantly. For interiors, painting one wall in a bold contrast shade creates a feature that looks considered and deliberate.

The cost of a litre of quality paint and a few hours of your time is minimal, but the visual impact is enormous. This is always the best first step in an entryway makeover.

02. Replace or Add Door Hardware

Old, worn, or builder-grade door hardware is one of the most noticeable signs of a neglected entrance. Replacing a door handle, knocker, or letter slot with a brushed brass, matte black, or satin nickel finish version costs under £30 and immediately elevates the look of the entire entrance.

This small change has an outsized effect because hardware is touched and noticed every time someone enters or leaves — the quality and finish registers subconsciously but powerfully.

03. Hang a Large Mirror

A large mirror — sourced from a charity shop, Facebook Marketplace, or a budget retailer — is one of the most transformative additions to a small entryway. Even a simple mirror in a plain frame makes the space feel significantly larger and brighter.

Lean it against the wall (no wall damage required) or hang it centrally above a console table. The light-reflecting quality of a large mirror works harder in a small dark entryway than almost any other single purchase.

04. Add a Small Runner Rug

A small runner rug at the entrance costs as little as £15–£30 and completely transforms the feel of a bare floor. It adds warmth, defines the space, protects the flooring, and provides an opportunity to introduce colour or pattern.

Choose a durable, easy-to-clean material — cotton or polypropylene blends — that can handle daily foot traffic and occasional spot-cleaning.

05. Install Affordable Wall Hooks

A row of wall-mounted hooks costs very little — individual brass or black iron hooks are available for under £5 each — and solves one of the most common entryway problems immediately. Coats and bags have a home, the floor stays clear, and the entrance looks intentionally organised.

Space hooks 15–20cm apart and mount them at a consistent height. A row of five matching hooks makes a clean, design-forward statement.

06. Style a Thrifted Console Table

A slim console table found at a charity shop, car boot sale, or Facebook Marketplace — sanded back and painted in a complementary colour — can look just as good as a new designer piece. The key is styling: a small lamp, a tray for keys, and a single plant transforms any table into a styled vignette.

The combination of a table, a mirror above it, and a rug in front of it is the classic entryway trio that works in virtually every home.

07. Add a Plant or Small Arrangement

A single plant — a trailing pothos, a small snake plant, or a bunch of dried pampas grass — adds life and warmth to an entryway for very little cost. Plants are one of the most reliable decor investments because they bring organic texture and colour that no manufactured object can replicate.

Dried flower arrangements and pampas grass last indefinitely and require zero maintenance — ideal for entryways that receive low light and little attention.

08. Frame Affordable Prints or Maps

Free printable art (available from numerous online sources), affordable prints from Etsy, or even pages from a beautiful book can be framed cheaply in frames from IKEA or charity shops. A single large framed print above a console table creates a focal point that looks anything but budget.

Alternatively, frame a map of a meaningful place, a piece of vintage sheet music, or a botanical illustration — personalised art that costs almost nothing but looks genuinely considered.

09. Declutter and Deep Clean First

Completely decluttered and cleaned entryway

The highest-impact, zero-cost step in any entryway makeover is decluttering and deep cleaning. Remove everything — every stray item, every old coat, every forgotten bag — and only return what belongs there.

A clean, clear entryway often requires nothing more added to it to feel like a transformation. The absence of clutter is itself a design statement.

10. Swap or Add a Striking Light Fitting

If your entryway has an overhead light fitting, swapping the shade or replacing it entirely with a more stylish option (a rattan pendant, a geometric shade, or a small chandelier) makes a significant difference for a modest investment.

Even replacing the bulb with a warm-toned, lower-wattage filament bulb instantly transforms the quality of light in the space — from harsh and functional to warm and welcoming.

Big Impact, Small Spend

An entryway makeover is one of the highest-return home improvement projects available — the space is small, the investment is modest, and the daily impact is significant. Every one of the ideas above can be achieved for under £50, and most for far less.

Start with the free step — decluttering — and work from there. You’ll often find that with a clear space, a few hooks, and a mirror, the transformation is already complete.
